[882] Setting aside the seven offenses (āpatti) and the seven classes of offenses (āpattikkhandha), to how many failures (vipatti), among the four failures, do the remaining offenses belong? By how many classes of offenses, among the seven classes of offenses, are they included? From how many origins (samuṭṭhāna), among the six origins of offenses, do they originate? Which legal issue (adhikaraṇa), among the four legal issues, are they? By how many means of settlement (samatha), among the seven means of settlement, are they settled?
Setting aside the seven offenses and the seven classes of offenses, the remaining offenses do not belong to any of the four failures; they are not included by any of the seven classes of offenses; they do not originate from any of the six origins of offenses; they are not any of the four legal issues; they are not settled by any of the seven means of settlement. Why is that? Because, setting aside the seven offenses and the seven classes of offenses, there are no other offenses.
