[916] Of the seven settlements (samatha), how many settlements does a legal issue arising from dispute (vivādādhikaraṇa) partake of? On how many settlements does it depend? In how many settlements is it included? By how many settlements is it comprised? By how many settlements is it settled? A legal issue arising from accusation (anuvādādhikaraṇa) … A legal issue arising from offense (āpattādhikaraṇa) … Of the seven settlements, how many settlements does a legal issue arising from business (kiccādhikaraṇa) partake of? On how many settlements does it depend? In how many settlements is it included? By how many settlements is it comprised? By how many settlements is it settled? A legal issue arising from dispute partakes of two of the seven settlements, depends on two settlements, is included in two settlements, is comprised by two settlements, and is settled by two settlements: by removal in the presence (sammukhāvinaya) and by decision of the majority (yebhuyyasikā). A legal issue arising from accusation partakes of four of the seven settlements, depends on four settlements, is included in four settlements, is comprised by four settlements, and is settled by four settlements: by removal in the presence, by removal on account of mindfulness (sativinaya), by removal on account of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya), and by the further penalty for aggravated misconduct (tassapāpiyasikā). A legal issue arising from offense partakes of three of the seven settlements, depends on three settlements, is included in three settlements, is comprised by three settlements, and is settled by three settlements: by removal in the presence, by acting according to what is acknowledged (paṭiññātakaraṇa), and by covering over as with grass (tiṇavatthāraka). A legal issue arising from business partakes of one of the seven settlements, depends on one settlement, is included in one settlement, is comprised by one settlement, and is settled by one settlement: by removal in the presence.
