[948] There are two constraints (palibodha) with regard to the kaṭhina: the constraint of residence (āvāsapalibodha) and the constraint of robes (cīvarapalibodha). There are two absences of constraint with regard to the kaṭhina: the absence of the constraint of residence and the absence of the constraint of robes. There are two kinds of robe-cloth (cīvara): that given by householders (gahapatika) and that of rag-robes (paṃsukūlika). There are two kinds of bowl: the iron bowl and the clay bowl. There are two kinds of bowl-rest (maṇḍala): one made of tin and one made of lead. There are two determinations (adhiṭṭhāna) of a bowl: one determines it by body, or one determines it by speech. There are two determinations of a robe: one determines it by body, or one determines it by speech. There are two assignments of ownership (vikappanā): assignment in the presence and assignment in the absence. There are two disciplines (vinaya): that of the bhikkhus and that of the bhikkhunīs. There are two things pertaining to the discipline (venayika): what has been laid down (paññatta) and what conforms to what has been laid down (paññattānuloma). There are two effacements (sallekha) belonging to the discipline: the cutting off (setughāta) with regard to what is unallowable, and the practice of moderation with regard to what is allowable.
