[957] There are three concealments (chādanā): one conceals the matter (vatthu) but not the offense (āpatti); one conceals the offense but not the matter; one conceals both the matter and the offense.
There are three coverings (paṭicchādi): the covering of the bathhouse (jantāghara), the covering of water, and the covering of cloth.
Three things carry on when concealed, not when exposed: womankind (mātugāma) carries on when concealed, not when exposed; the mantras of brahmins carry on when concealed, not when exposed; wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi) carries on when concealed, not when exposed.
Three things shine when exposed, not when concealed: the disc of the moon shines when exposed, not when concealed; the disc of the sun shines when exposed, not when concealed; the Dhamma and Discipline proclaimed by the Tathāgata shines when exposed, not when concealed.
There are three assignments of lodgings (senāsanagāha): the earlier one, the later one, and the one released in the interval (antarāmuttaka).
