[998] There are nine grounds for resentment (āghātavatthu). Nine ways of dispelling resentment (āghātapaṭivinaya). Nine settled cases (vinītavatthu). Nine [offenses] incurred at the first act (paṭhamāpattikā). The Saṅgha is split by nine. Nine superior foods (paṇītabhojana). There is wrongdoing (dukkaṭa) on account of nine kinds of meat. Nine recitations of the Pātimokkha (pātimokkhuddesa). Nine maximums (paramāni). Nine dhammas rooted in craving (taṇhā). The ninefold conceit (māna).
