[147] "Ambaṭṭha, even the little quail, a mere bird, speaks as she pleases in her own nest. And Kapilavatthu, Ambaṭṭha, belongs to the Sakyans as their own. The venerable Ambaṭṭha ought not to take offense over so trifling a matter as this."
"Worthy Gotama, there are these four classes (vaṇṇa): khattiyas, brahmins, vessas, and suddas. Of these four classes, worthy Gotama, three classes—the khattiyas, the vessas, and the suddas—assuredly turn out to be nothing but attendants of the brahmins. Worthy Gotama, it is neither fitting nor proper that these Sakyans, being menials (ibbha), remaining menials, do not honor brahmins, do not respect brahmins, do not esteem brahmins, do not venerate brahmins, and do not defer to brahmins."
Thus for the third time the student Ambaṭṭha hurled at the Sakyans the charge of being menials.
