[148] Then it occurred to the Blessed One: "This young brahmin Ambaṭṭha disparages the Sakyans far too severely with the term 'menials' (ibbha). What if I were to ask him about his clan?"
Then the Blessed One said this to the young brahmin Ambaṭṭha: "Of what clan are you, Ambaṭṭha?"
"I am a Kaṇhāyana, worthy Gotama."
"But, Ambaṭṭha, when one recollects the ancient name and clan of your mother and father, the Sakyans turn out to be sons of the masters, while you are the son of a slavegirl of the Sakyans. And the Sakyans, Ambaṭṭha, regard King Okkāka as their grandfather."
