[195] "Well then, brahmin, listen and attend carefully; I will speak."
"Yes, sir," the brahmin Soṇadaṇḍa replied to the Blessed One.
The Blessed One said this: "Here, brahmin, a Tathāgata arises in the world, an Arahant, a Perfectly Self-Awakened One … (to be expanded here as in the Sāmaññaphala) … And it is in this way, brahmin, that a bhikkhu is accomplished in virtue (sīla). This too, brahmin, is that virtue. He enters and dwells in the first jhāna. The second jhāna. The third jhāna. He enters and dwells in the fourth jhāna. … He directs and inclines the mind (citta) toward knowledge and vision (ñāṇadassana). … This too pertains to his wisdom. … He understands: '… there is nothing further for this state of being.' This too pertains to his wisdom. This, brahmin, is that wisdom."
