[248] "Here, Mahāli, a bhikkhu has developed concentration (samādhi) toward the eastern quarter in both aspects: both for the seeing of divine forms that are agreeable, connected with sensuality, and provocative of lust, and for the hearing of divine sounds that are agreeable, connected with sensuality, and provocative of lust. When his concentration has been developed in both aspects toward the eastern quarter — for the seeing of divine forms … and for the hearing of divine sounds … — he both sees divine forms in the eastern quarter that are agreeable, connected with sensuality, and provocative of lust, and hears divine sounds that are agreeable, connected with sensuality, and provocative of lust. What is the reason for that? Because, Mahāli, that is how it is for a bhikkhu when concentration has been developed in both aspects toward the eastern quarter — for the seeing of divine forms … for the hearing of divine sounds that are agreeable, connected with sensuality, and provocative of lust."
