[251] "Furthermore, Mahāli, with the utter destruction of three fetters (saṃyojana) and with the attenuation of lust (rāga), hatred, and delusion, a bhikkhu becomes a once-returner (sakadāgāmī): having come back to this world only once more, he makes an end of suffering (dukkha). This, Mahāli, is a dhamma higher and more sublime, for the sake of the realization of which bhikkhus live the holy life under me."
