[252] Furthermore, Mahāli, with the utter destruction of the five lower fetters (saṃyojana), a bhikkhu becomes one of spontaneous rebirth (opapātika), attaining final Nibbāna there, not subject to returning from that world. This too, Mahāli, is a dhamma higher and more excellent, for the sake of the realization of which bhikkhus live the holy life (brahmacariya) under me.
