[253] "Furthermore, Mahāli, a bhikkhu, through the destruction of the taints (āsava), having realized it for himself with direct knowledge (abhiññā), enters upon and dwells, in this very life, in the taintless liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti). This too, Mahāli, is a state higher and more excellent, for the sake of realizing which bhikkhus live the holy life (brahmacariya) under me. These, Mahāli, are the states higher and more excellent, for the sake of realizing which bhikkhus live the holy life under me."
