[264] "Again, Kassapa, let the wise question, press, and cross-examine us, comparing teacher with teacher, community with community: 'Among the qualities (dhammā) of these honored ones, those which are unskillful and reckoned as unskillful, blameworthy and reckoned as blameworthy, not to be cultivated and reckoned as not to be cultivated, unworthy of the noble ones and reckoned as unworthy of the noble ones, dark and reckoned as dark—who conducts himself having abandoned these qualities without remainder: the community of the disciples of Gotama, or the communities of the disciples of those other honored teachers of groups?'
Now, Kassapa, this is possible: that the wise, questioning, pressing, and cross-examining, would speak thus: 'Among the qualities of these honored ones, those which are unskillful and reckoned as unskillful, blameworthy and reckoned as blameworthy, not to be cultivated and reckoned as not to be cultivated, unworthy of the noble ones and reckoned as unworthy of the noble ones, dark and reckoned as dark—it is the community of the disciples of Gotama that conducts itself having abandoned these qualities without remainder, rather than the communities of the disciples of those other honored teachers of groups.' Thus, Kassapa, the wise, questioning, pressing, and cross-examining, would for the most part praise us alone in that matter."
