[291] "Sir, I believe in a formless self (attā), made of perception (saññā)."
"But suppose, Poṭṭhapāda, your self were formless, made of perception. Even so, Poṭṭhapāda, perception would be one thing and the self another. This too, Poṭṭhapāda, is a way by which it may be understood how perception would be one thing and the self another: even while that formless self made of perception stands just as it is, Poṭṭhapāda, still one perception arises in this person and another perception ceases. By this way too, Poṭṭhapāda, it may be understood how perception would be one thing and the self another."
