[307] "Poṭṭhapāda, if others were to ask us thus: 'But what, friend, is that mind-made acquisition of a self (manomaya attapaṭilābha)?' … (the same elision is to be supplied) … 'But what, friend, is that formless (arūpa) acquisition of a self, for the abandoning of which you teach the Dhamma — such that, for you who practice accordingly, defiling states (saṃkilesikā dhammā) will be abandoned and states conducive to cleansing (vodāniyā dhammā) will increase … and you will enter upon and dwell therein?' — What do you think, Poṭṭhapāda? This being so, does not the statement turn out to be one endowed with a demonstrable basis (sappāṭihīrakata)?"
"Certainly, venerable sir; this being so, the statement turns out to be one endowed with a demonstrable basis."
