[346] Then, Kevaṭṭa, that bhikkhu approached the Great Brahmā (Mahābrahmā), and having approached, he said this to the Great Brahmā: "Friend, where do these four great elements (mahābhūtā) cease without remainder — namely, the earth element (paṭhavīdhātu), the water element (āpodhātu), the fire element (tejodhātu), and the air element (vāyodhātu)?"
When this was said, Kevaṭṭa, the Great Brahmā said this to that bhikkhu: "I, bhikkhu, am Brahmā, the Great Brahmā, the Vanquisher, the Unvanquished, the All-Seeing, the Wielder of Power, the Lord (issara), the Maker, the Creator, the Chief, the Ordainer, the Master, the Father of beings who have been born and of those yet to be born."
A second time, Kevaṭṭa, that bhikkhu said this to the Great Brahmā: "Friend, I do not ask you thus: 'Are you Brahmā, the Great Brahmā, the Vanquisher, the Unvanquished, the All-Seeing, the Wielder of Power, the Lord, the Maker, the Creator, the Ordainer, the Master, the Father of beings who have been born and of those yet to be born?' Rather, friend, I ask you thus: 'Where, friend, do these four great elements cease without remainder — namely, the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the air element?'"
