[367] Then Vāseṭṭha the brahmin student addressed Bhāradvāja the brahmin student: "Bhāradvāja, this ascetic Gotama, a son of the Sakyans (sakyaputto), gone forth from a Sakyan family, is dwelling at Manasākaṭa, in a mango grove on the bank of the river Aciravatī to the north of Manasākaṭa. And concerning that worthy Gotama such a fair report of fame has spread abroad: 'Thus indeed is that Blessed One: an arahant (arahaṃ), a perfectly awakened one (sammāsambuddho) … the Blessed One.' Come, Bhāradvāja, let us go to the ascetic Gotama; and having approached, let us ask the ascetic Gotama about this matter. As the ascetic Gotama answers us, so shall we remember it."
"So be it, sir," Bhāradvāja the brahmin student assented to Vāseṭṭha the brahmin student.
