Summary verse (uddāna):
Five (cases) are told concerning dyers, and four concerning spread-out coverlets;
five indeed concerning darkness, and five concerning goods being carried;
five are told by way of modes of expression (nirutti), and two more concerning wind;
the undecomposed (corpse), the cast of the kusa-lot — together with the bathhouse (jantāghara), ten.
Five are told concerning (animals') leftovers, and five indeed that were groundless;
in time of famine, boiled rice and meat, cakes, sakkhali-pastries, and sweetmeats;
(the goods) together with the requisites, the bag, the mattress, the bamboo (robe-)pole, "do not go out";
solid food (taken) on trust, and two more with the perception (that it was their own);
seven (saying) "we are not stealing," and seven indeed who did steal;
seven stole what belonged to the Saṅgha, two more concerning flowers;
and three who spoke as they were told; three (cases of) jewels (carried) past (the customs);
pigs and deer and fish; and (one) set the vehicle rolling;
two pieces of meat, two timbers, the rag-cloth, two waters;
by gradual arrangement (taking little by little); the other did not complete (the theft);
at Sāvatthī four handfuls, two leftovers, two grasses;
seven divided (what belonged) to the Saṅgha, and seven indeed (took what was) ownerless;
Wood, water, clay, two grasses;
seven stole the Saṅgha's bedding;
what has an owner one should not remove;
one may take what has an owner (only) temporarily.
