[134] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, having gone to a charnel ground, took a rag-robe (paṃsukūla) from an intact corpse. And in that body a peta was dwelling. Then that peta said to that bhikkhu: "Venerable sir, do not take my cloth." The bhikkhu, disregarding him, took it. Then that body rose up and followed close behind that bhikkhu. Then that bhikkhu, having entered the dwelling (vihāra), shut the door. Then that body collapsed right there. He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, there is no offence of defeat (pārājika). And, bhikkhus, a rag-robe should not be taken from an intact corpse; whoever should take one commits an offence of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa)."
