[133] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, seeing a cloak lifted up by a whirlwind, took hold of it, thinking, "I will give it to the owners." The owners accused that bhikkhu: "You are not an ascetic (samaṇa)." He became remorseful … "What was your intention, bhikkhu?" "I had no intention to steal (theyyacitta), Blessed One." "There is no offense (āpatti), bhikkhu, for one without intention to steal."
Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, with intention to steal, took hold of a turban lifted up by a whirlwind, thinking, "Before the owners see it." The owners accused that bhikkhu: "You are not an ascetic." He became remorseful … "What was your intention, bhikkhu?" "I had the intention to steal, Blessed One." "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offense entailing defeat (pārājika)."
