[155] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu took a piece of meat that had been snatched up by a kite, thinking, "I shall give it to the owners." The owners accused that bhikkhu: "You are not an ascetic (samaṇa)!" He was remorseful (kukkucca). … "There is no offence (āpatti), bhikkhu, for one without a thieving mind (theyyacitta)."
Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, with a thieving mind, took a piece of meat that had been snatched up by a kite, thinking, "before the owners see it." The owners accused that bhikkhu: "You are not an ascetic!" He was remorseful. … "You, bhikkhu, have committed an offence entailing defeat (pārājika)."
