[166] Now at that time, the keepers of mango trees gave mango fruits to the bhikkhus. The bhikkhus, being scrupulous, thinking, "These men have authority to guard, not to give," did not accept them. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, there is no offense (anāpatti) when the keeper gives."
Now at that time, the keepers of rose-apple trees … the keepers of labuja (breadfruit) trees … the keepers of jackfruit trees … the keepers of ripe palmyra fruits … the keepers of sugarcane … the keepers of timbarūsaka trees gave timbarūsaka fruits to the bhikkhus. The bhikkhus, being scrupulous, thinking, "These men have authority to guard, not to give," did not accept them. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, there is no offense when the keeper gives."
