[213] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, oppressed by discontent, climbed Mount Gijjhakūṭa and, throwing himself down a precipice, fell upon a certain basket-maker and killed him. Remorse arose in him. … "Bhikkhu, there is no offense (āpatti) entailing defeat (pārājika). But, bhikkhus, one should not throw oneself down; whoever should throw himself down commits an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa)."
Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus climbed Mount Gijjhakūṭa and threw down a stone in sport. It fell upon a certain cowherd and killed him. Remorse arose in them. … "Bhikkhus, there is no offense entailing defeat. But, bhikkhus, a stone should not be thrown in sport; whoever should throw one commits an offense of wrongdoing."
