[251] A bhikkhu, knowingly speaking falsehood, saying, "I entered upon (samāpajjiṃ) the noble eightfold path," by three ways … by four … by five … by six … by seven ways — namely: (1) beforehand he knows, "I shall speak falsehood"; (2) while speaking, he knows, "I am speaking falsehood"; (3) having spoken, he knows, "I have spoken falsehood"; (4) misrepresenting his view; (5) misrepresenting his approval; (6) misrepresenting his liking; (7) misrepresenting his actual state — incurs an offence entailing defeat (pārājika).
