[258] With three modes … — when a bhikkhu knowingly speaks a deliberate lie (sampajānamusā), saying: "The first jhāna and the attainment of emptiness (suññata-samāpatti) … the first jhāna and the signless attainment (animitta-samāpatti) … the first jhāna and the desireless attainment (appaṇihita-samāpatti) — I attained, I attain, I have attained; I am an obtainer of, I am a master of, the first jhāna and the desireless attainment; the first jhāna and the desireless attainment have been realized by me" — he commits an offense of pārājika. …
