[239] For a bhikkhu who by three modes knowingly speaks a deliberate lie (sampajānamusā), saying, "I have attained the first jhāna," there is an offense of pārājika: before it, he knows, "I am going to speak a lie"; while speaking, he knows, "I am speaking a lie"; having spoken, he knows, "A lie has been spoken by me." For a bhikkhu who by four modes knowingly speaks a deliberate lie, saying, "I have attained the first jhāna," there is an offense of pārājika: before it, he knows, "I am going to speak a lie"; while speaking, he knows, "I am speaking a lie"; having spoken, he knows, "A lie has been spoken by me"; and he misrepresents his view (vinidhāya diṭṭhiṃ). For a bhikkhu who by five modes knowingly speaks a deliberate lie, saying, "I have attained the first jhāna," there is an offense of pārājika: before it, he knows, "I am going to speak a lie"; while speaking, he knows, "I am speaking a lie"; having spoken, he knows, "A lie has been spoken by me"; he misrepresents his view; and he misrepresents his acceptance (vinidhāya khantiṃ). For a bhikkhu who by six modes knowingly speaks a deliberate lie, saying, "I have attained the first jhāna," there is an offense of pārājika: before it, he knows, "I am going to speak a lie"; while speaking, he knows, "I am speaking a lie"; having spoken, he knows, "A lie has been spoken by me"; he misrepresents his view; he misrepresents his acceptance; and he misrepresents his preference (vinidhāya ruciṃ). For a bhikkhu who by seven modes knowingly speaks a deliberate lie, saying, "I have attained the first jhāna," there is an offense of pārājika: before it, he knows, "I am going to speak a lie"; while speaking, he knows, "I am speaking a lie"; having spoken, he knows, "A lie has been spoken by me"; he misrepresents his view; he misrepresents his acceptance; he misrepresents his preference; and he misrepresents his state of mind (vinidhāya bhāvaṃ).
