[624] **"Now, a bhikkhu lives supported by a certain village or town":** a village, a town, and a city as well — [all are covered by] "village and town." **"Lives supported by":** the robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick are bound up with (obtained in) that place. **"Family" (kula)** means the four families: the khattiya family, the brāhmaṇa family, the vessa family, and the sudda family. **"A corrupter of families" (kuladūsaka):** he corrupts families with flowers, or with fruit, or with powder, or with clay, or with tooth-wood, or with bamboo, or by medical practice, or by going on errands on foot. **"Of bad conduct" (pāpasamācāra):** he plants a flowering shrub and has one planted; he waters it and has it watered; he plucks [flowers] and has them plucked; he strings [garlands] and has them strung.
