[648] "**Whatever**" means: whoever, of whatever sort … . "**Bhikkhu**" means: … this is the bhikkhu intended in this sense. "**On such a seat**" means: on a seat of that kind. "**Woman**" (mātugāma) means: a human female — not a female yakkha, not a female peta, not a female animal — one who is intelligent and capable of understanding what is well spoken and badly spoken, what is lewd and what is not lewd. "**Together**" means: as one. "**One man with one woman**" means: there is just the bhikkhu and the woman. "**Private**" means: private to the eye and private to the ear. "**Private to the eye**" means: it is not possible to see them winking an eye, raising an eyebrow, or raising the head. "**Private to the ear**" means: it is not possible to hear ordinary talk. "**Should take a seat**" means: when the woman is seated, the bhikkhu sits down close by or lies down close by; when the bhikkhu is seated, the woman sits down close by or lies down close by; or both are seated, or both are lying down.
