[179] "Householder's son, there are these six dangers (ādīnava) in habitual indulgence in intoxicating drinks—distilled liquor and fermented brews, which are a basis for heedlessness: loss of wealth visible here and now; the promotion of quarrels; being a breeding ground of diseases; the begetting of a bad reputation; the indecent exposure of one's private parts; and the weakening of wisdom (paññā), which is the sixth point. These, householder's son, are the six dangers in habitual indulgence in intoxicating drinks—distilled liquor and fermented brews, which are a basis for heedlessness."
