[204] "Householder's son, ascetics and brahmins as the upper quarter should be served by a clansman (kulaputta) in five ways: by bodily action imbued with loving-kindness (mettā), by verbal action imbued with loving-kindness, by mental action imbued with loving-kindness, by not keeping the door closed to them, and by providing them with material goods (āmisa).
Householder's son, ascetics and brahmins as the upper quarter, being served by the clansman in these five ways, show sympathy to the clansman in six ways: they restrain him from evil; they establish him in what is good; they show him sympathy with a kindly mind; they let him hear what he has not heard; they clarify what he has already heard; they point out the path to heaven.

Thus spoke the Blessed One. Having said this, the Fortunate One, the Teacher, further said this:
