[288] Five losses (byasana): loss of relatives (ñātibyasana), loss of wealth (bhogabyasana), loss through illness (rogabyasana), loss of virtue (sīlabyasana), and loss of view (diṭṭhibyasana). Friends, it is not by reason of loss of relatives, or by reason of loss of wealth, or by reason of loss through illness, that beings, with the breakup of the body, after death, are reborn in a plane of misery, a bad destination, the lower realm, hell. But it is by reason of loss of virtue, friends, or by reason of loss of view, that beings, with the breakup of the body, after death, are reborn in a plane of misery, a bad destination, the lower realm, hell.
