**Seven means of settling disciplinary issues (adhikaraṇasamatha)** — for the settling, for the pacifying, of disciplinary issues whenever they have arisen:
Resolution in the presence (sammukhāvinaya) should be granted; resolution through recollection (sativinaya) should be granted; resolution on account of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya) should be granted; acting according to what has been admitted (paṭiññāya kāretabbaṃ); decision by majority (yebhuyyasikā); the verdict of further penalty against one who is at greater fault (tassapāpiyasikā); covering over as with grass (tiṇavatthāraka).
These, friends, are the dhammas in groups of seven rightly proclaimed by that Blessed One who knows and sees, the Arahant, the Perfectly Awakened One. Therein all should recite in concert … for the good, the welfare, and the happiness of gods and humans.
