[461] What nine dhammas are hard to penetrate? Nine diversities: dependent on the diversity of elements (dhātu) there arises the diversity of contacts (phassa); dependent on the diversity of contacts there arises the diversity of feelings (vedanā); dependent on the diversity of feelings there arises the diversity of perceptions (saññā); dependent on the diversity of perceptions there arises the diversity of intentions (saṅkappa); dependent on the diversity of intentions there arises the diversity of desires (chanda); dependent on the diversity of desires there arises the diversity of fevers (pariḷāha); dependent on the diversity of fevers there arises the diversity of searches (pariyesanā); dependent on the diversity of searches there arises the diversity of gains (lābha). These are the nine dhammas that are hard to penetrate.
