[77] Moreover, venerable sir, this too is unsurpassed: the way the Blessed One teaches the Dhamma concerning the descents into the womb (gabbhāvakkanti). Venerable sir, there are these four descents into the womb.
Here, venerable sir, someone descends into his mother's womb not clearly comprehending (asampajāno), abides in his mother's womb not clearly comprehending, and emerges from his mother's womb not clearly comprehending. This is the first descent into the womb.
Again, venerable sir, someone here does indeed descend into his mother's womb clearly comprehending (sampajāno), but he abides in his mother's womb not clearly comprehending, and emerges from his mother's womb not clearly comprehending. This is the second descent into the womb.
Again, venerable sir, someone here descends into his mother's womb clearly comprehending, and abides in his mother's womb clearly comprehending, but emerges from his mother's womb not clearly comprehending. This is the third descent into the womb.
Again, venerable sir, someone here descends into his mother's womb clearly comprehending, abides in his mother's womb clearly comprehending, and emerges from his mother's womb clearly comprehending. This is the fourth descent into the womb.
This, venerable sir, is unsurpassed with regard to the descents into the womb.
