[189] Sāriputta, there are some ascetics and brahmins who hold this doctrine, this view: "Purity (suddhi) comes about through an abode (āvāsa)." But, Sāriputta, it is not easy to find an abode in which I have not previously dwelt in this long course of time, except for the gods of the Pure Abodes (suddhāvāsa). And if, Sāriputta, I were to dwell among the gods of the Pure Abodes, I would not come back again to this world.
