[461] And what, bhikkhus, is more to be done? You should train thus: 'Our bodily conduct (kāyasamācāra) shall be pure, evident, open, without breach, and restrained; and on account of that purity of bodily conduct we will neither exalt ourselves nor disparage others.' Thus, bhikkhus, should you train. It may be, bhikkhus, that you might think: 'We are endowed with conscience and fear of wrongdoing (hirottappa); our bodily conduct is pure. Just this much is enough; just this much has been done; the goal of the ascetic life (sāmaññattha) has been attained by us; there is nothing more for us to do,' and you might come to contentment with just that much. I inform you, bhikkhus, I declare to you: while there is still more to be done, let not the goal of the ascetic life of you who seek the goal of the ascetic life fall away.
