[236] "And what, bhikkhus, is the individual who is a Dhamma-follower (dhammānusārī)? Here, bhikkhus, some individual does not dwell having contacted with the body those peaceful liberations (vimokkha) which are formless, transcending forms; yet, having seen with wisdom, some of his taints (āsava) are destroyed; and the dhammas proclaimed by the Tathāgata are accepted by him after reflection to a measure with wisdom. Moreover, these qualities are found in him, namely: the faculty of faith, the faculty of energy (vīriya), the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration (samādhi), and the faculty of wisdom. This individual, bhikkhus, is called a Dhamma-follower. For this bhikkhu too, bhikkhus, I say there is work to be done with diligence. For what reason? [I consider:] 'Perhaps this venerable one, resorting to suitable lodgings, associating with good friends, and bringing his faculties into balance, might realize for himself with direct knowledge, in this very life, that unsurpassed consummation of the holy life for the sake of which clansmen rightly go forth from home into homelessness, and, having entered upon it, might dwell therein.' Seeing this fruit of diligence for this bhikkhu, bhikkhus, I say there is work to be done with diligence."
