[279] The Blessed One said this to the wanderer Māgaṇḍiya as he sat to one side: "Māgaṇḍiya, the eye delights in forms, takes delight in forms, rejoices in forms. That has been tamed by the Tathāgata, guarded, protected, and restrained, and he teaches the Dhamma for its restraint. Was it with reference to this, Māgaṇḍiya, that you said: 'The ascetic Gotama is a destroyer of growth (bhūnahano)'?"
"It was indeed with reference to this, Master Gotama, that I said: 'The ascetic Gotama is a destroyer of growth.' Why is that? Because so it comes down in our scripture."
"The ear, Māgaṇḍiya, delights in sounds …
"The nose, Māgaṇḍiya, delights in odours …
"The tongue, Māgaṇḍiya, delights in tastes, takes delight in tastes, rejoices in tastes. That has been tamed by the Tathāgata, guarded, protected, and restrained, and he teaches the Dhamma for its restraint.
