[324] "Udāyi, if it were the case that my disciples honored, respected, esteemed, and venerated me, and, having honored and respected me, lived in dependence on me, thinking, 'The ascetic Gotama eats little food, and he speaks in praise of eating little' — yet, Udāyi, there are disciples of mine who eat only a kosaka-measure of food, or half a kosaka-measure; who eat only a beluva-measure, or half a beluva-measure. But I, Udāyi, sometimes eat this bowl full to the very brim, and eat even more. So if, Udāyi, my disciples were to honor, respect, esteem, and venerate me, and, having honored and respected me, live in dependence on me, thinking, 'The ascetic Gotama eats little food, and he speaks in praise of eating little,' then those disciples of mine, Udāyi, who eat only a kosaka-measure of food, or half a kosaka-measure, who eat only a beluva-measure, or half a beluva-measure, would not on this account honor, respect, esteem, and venerate me, nor, having honored and respected me, live in dependence on me."
