[338] Furthermore, Udāyī, I have declared to my disciples the way of practice, and practicing in accordance with it my disciples develop the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga). Here, Udāyī, a bhikkhu develops the awakening factor of mindfulness, based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in relinquishment; he develops the awakening factor of investigation of dhammas … he develops the awakening factor of energy … he develops the awakening factor of rapture … he develops the awakening factor of tranquility … he develops the awakening factor of concentration (samādhi) … he develops the awakening factor of equanimity, based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in relinquishment. And therein many of my disciples abide having attained the consummation and perfection of direct knowledge.
