[36] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling among the Aṅguttarāpans, near a market town of the Aṅguttarāpans named Āpaṇa. Then, in the morning, the Blessed One dressed and, taking bowl and robe, entered Āpaṇa for alms. Having walked for alms in Āpaṇa and returned from the almsround after the meal, he approached a certain forest grove for the day's abiding; having plunged into that forest grove, he sat down for the day's abiding at the root of a certain tree.
Now Potaliya the householder — fully attired in lower and upper garments, with parasol and sandals — while walking and wandering about for exercise, approached that forest grove; having approached and plunged into that forest grove, he went up to the Blessed One. Having drawn near, he exchanged greetings with the Blessed One, and when the courteous and memorable talk of greeting was concluded, he stood to one side.
