A beryl gem — beautiful, luminous, eight-faceted, well cut — placed upon a pale woolen cloth, shines, glows, and radiates; and there is a firefly, a glow-worm, in the blinding darkness of night: of these two splendors (vaṇṇa), which splendor is the more excellent and the more sublime?"
