[384] "Here, Udāyī, a bhikkhu, with the abandoning of pleasure … enters and remains in the fourth jhāna. There are deities who have been reborn in a world of exclusively pleasant experience; with those deities he stands together, converses, and enters into discussion. To this extent, Udāyī, a world of exclusively pleasant experience has been realized by him."
"Surely then, venerable sir, it is for the sake of realizing this world of exclusively pleasant experience that the bhikkhus live the holy life under the Blessed One?"
"No, Udāyī, it is not for the sake of realizing this world of exclusively pleasant experience that the bhikkhus live the holy life under me. There are, Udāyī, other dhammas, higher and more excellent, for the sake of realizing which the bhikkhus live the holy life under me."
