[405] Then the Venerable Ānanda, having spread out his outer robe (saṅghāṭi) folded in four, said this to the Blessed One: "Well then, venerable sir, let the Blessed One sit down; thus this spot of ground will have been used by two Arahants, Fully Awakened Ones." The Blessed One sat down on the seat prepared. Having sat down, the Blessed One addressed the Venerable Ānanda: "Formerly, Ānanda, in this place there was a market town named Vebhaḷiga, prosperous and flourishing, populous, crowded with people. Supported by the market town of Vebhaḷiga, Ānanda, the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Awakened One, dwelt. Here, indeed, Ānanda, was the monastery of the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Awakened One. Here, indeed, Ānanda, the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Awakened One, seated, would advise the community of bhikkhus. In the market town of Vebhaḷiga, Ānanda, there was a potter named Ghaṭikāra, an attendant of the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Awakened One—his chief attendant. And the potter Ghaṭikāra, Ānanda, had a friend, a dear friend, a young brahmin student named Jotipāla. Then, Ānanda, the potter Ghaṭikāra addressed the student Jotipāla: 'Come, friend Jotipāla, let us approach the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Awakened One, to see him; for the sight of that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Awakened One, is deemed good by me.'"
