[406] When this was said, Ānanda, the brahmin student (māṇava) Jotipāla said to Ghaṭikāra the potter: "Enough, friend Ghaṭikāra. What is the use of seeing that shaveling, that petty ascetic?" A second time, Ānanda … A third time, Ānanda, Ghaṭikāra the potter said to the brahmin student Jotipāla: "Come, friend Jotipāla, let us go to see the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One; for the sight of that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One, is deemed good by me." A third time, Ānanda, the brahmin student Jotipāla said to Ghaṭikāra the potter: "Enough, friend Ghaṭikāra. What is the use of seeing that shaveling, that petty ascetic?"
"Then, friend Jotipāla, let us take a bathing scrubber (sottisināna) and go to the river to bathe."
"Very well, friend," Ānanda, the brahmin student Jotipāla assented to Ghaṭikāra the potter.
