[420] "This one time, great king, I was staying right there in the market town named Vebhaḷiga. Now on that occasion my hut leaked. Then, great king, I addressed the bhikkhus: 'Go, bhikkhus, and find out about grass at the dwelling of Ghaṭīkāra the potter.' When this was said, great king, those bhikkhus said to me: 'Venerable sir, there is no grass at the dwelling of Ghaṭīkāra the potter; but there is his workshop, which has a grass roof.' 'Go, bhikkhus, and strip the grass from the workshop of Ghaṭīkāra the potter.' Then, great king, those bhikkhus stripped the grass from the workshop of Ghaṭīkāra the potter.
Then, great king, the mother and father of Ghaṭīkāra the potter said to those bhikkhus: 'Who is stripping the grass from the workshop?' 'It is the bhikkhus, sister; the hut of the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, is leaking.' 'Take it, venerable sirs! Take it, dear ones!'
Then, great king, Ghaṭīkāra the potter approached his mother and father, and having approached, he said to them: 'Who has stripped the grass from the workshop?' 'It was the bhikkhus, dear; it seems the hut of the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, is leaking.' Then, great king, it occurred to Ghaṭīkāra the potter: 'It is a gain for me, it is well gained by me, that the Blessed One Kassapa, the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, so fully trusts me!' Then, great king, rapture (pīti) and happiness did not leave Ghaṭīkāra the potter for a fortnight, nor his mother and father for seven days. And then, great king, that entire workshop stood for the whole three months with the sky as its roof, yet the rain did not pour down upon it. Such a one, great king, is Ghaṭīkāra the potter."
"It is a gain, venerable sir, for Ghaṭīkāra the potter; it is well gained, venerable sir, by Ghaṭīkāra the potter, that the Blessed One so fully trusts him."
