[435] There the Venerable Raṭṭhapāla dwelt at Thullakoṭṭhika, in King Koravya's Migācīra (deer range). Then, in the morning, the Venerable Raṭṭhapāla dressed and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Thullakoṭṭhika for alms. As he was wandering for alms in Thullakoṭṭhika from house to house without omission, he approached his own father's residence. Now on that occasion the Venerable Raṭṭhapāla's father was having his hair dressed in the hall of the middle gateway. The Venerable Raṭṭhapāla's father saw the Venerable Raṭṭhapāla coming from afar, and having seen him, he said this: "By these shaveling petty ascetics our only son, dear and beloved, was made to go forth!" Then the Venerable Raṭṭhapāla, at his own father's residence, received neither a gift nor a refusal; he received only abuse.
