[646] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One, wandering on tour in the Kosalan country together with a large Saṅgha of bhikkhus, arrived at a brahmin village of the Kosalans named Opāsāda. There the Blessed One dwelt near Opāsāda, to the north of Opāsāda, in the sāla grove called the Deva Grove (Devavana). Now on that occasion the brahmin Caṅkī was governing Opāsāda—a place teeming with living beings, abounding in grass, timber, and water, rich in grain—a royal property given by King Pasenadi of Kosala, a royal gift, a brahmin endowment (brahmadeyya).
