[677] "What do you think, Dhanañjāni? Suppose someone here were to behave contrary to the Dhamma, to behave unrighteously, for the sake of his wife and children, and on account of that conduct contrary to the Dhamma, that unrighteous conduct, the wardens of hell were to drag him off to hell. Would he obtain [release] by pleading: 'It was for the sake of my wife and children that I behaved contrary to the Dhamma, behaved unrighteously — let not the wardens of hell [drag] me to hell'? Or would his wife and children obtain [release] for him by pleading: 'It was for our sake that he behaved contrary to the Dhamma, behaved unrighteously — let not the wardens of hell [drag] him to hell'?"
"No indeed, worthy Sāriputta. Rather, even as he wailed, the wardens of hell would cast him down into hell."
