[685] "What do you think, Dhanañjāni? Suppose someone here were to conduct himself contrary to the Dhamma (adhammacārī), conduct himself unrighteously (visamacārī), for the sake of fattening the body, for the sake of building up the body, and on account of that conduct contrary to the Dhamma and unrighteous conduct the wardens of hell (nirayapālā) were to drag him off to hell (niraya). Would he obtain [his plea]: 'It was for the sake of fattening the body, for the sake of building up the body, that I conducted myself contrary to the Dhamma, conducted myself unrighteously; let not the wardens of hell [drag] me to hell'? Or would others obtain [it] on his behalf: 'It was for the sake of fattening the body, for the sake of building up the body, that this man conducted himself contrary to the Dhamma, conducted himself unrighteously; let not the wardens of hell [drag] him to hell'?"
"No indeed, worthy Sāriputta. Rather, even as he wailed, the wardens of hell would cast him down into hell."
